28 states US states currently allow teachers or school staff to be armed in the classroom under varying conditions. Proponents argue that without guns, teachers or other staff have only limited countermeasures available to them when confronted with a shooter. Opponents, include The National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers, highlight the elevated risk of accidents and negligent use of firearms as more adults in schools are armed.

Yes but only if the individual teacher wants to go through extensive paid training
@B3XKBJF3mos3MO
I agree people should have guns for self-defense, but having a gun on school grounds could cause unsafe behavior, and make the students feel unsafe.
@B3T9Q5Z3mos3MO
This is an extreme solution to the issue of gun violence, which I believe to have many other possible solutions that do not involve having guns on campuses.
@B2RMNYK4mos4MO
Somewhat, an idea was theorized at my school that we have a hidden gun compartment that only the teacher knows about and will only unlock in case of an emergency.
@9ZN2XS47mos7MO
I don't think so as much because a teacher can kill people with the gun if they lost their mind enough and sure they can protect but it's a risk.
@9X6THWB8mos8MO
A teacher should be able to get a certification and go through a training class and then be allowed to carry a concealed gun at school.
@9VRB9LP8mos8MO
Yes, all campuses should require at least one staff member to be armed, and part of mandatory training should be gun safety.
@9VDNL8R8mos8MO
Yes, they'd need practice and it would need to set off an alarm to notify a teacher is now armed in case of an emergency and it lets others know in case the teacher is using it for the wrong.
@9KCRZFZ1yr1Y
yes, but it should every well locked up and the teacher must be well trusted. it should ONLY be used for defense from a school shooter
@9K9W77WConstitution1yr1Y
All teachers should be highly trained and proficient in the use of a weapon/firearm. To protect when needed to children or staff in an emergency situation.
@9JNTT2H1yr1Y
Depending on the area of the country, teachers should be allowed to carry a weapon with proper permits. This should not be a requirement by the school district for anyone to carry a gun, but in many cases, we should not be limiting a person from their right to own a gun. I would like to see consistent gun handling and safety trainings to any teacher who carries a gun on campus. I do think there should be stricter regulation on gun sales and the legality of carrying a firearm.
@9HYF3LK1yr1Y
No as I feel this would end up being a fighting fire with fire type of situation. Along with how this may potentially open up more loopholes that sick and twisted individuals could abuse.
@9GZL5JBProgressive2yrs2Y
No. Adding more guns does not solve the problem. Accidentally shoots would occur, and the fact that a kid or even the teacher could just have enough one day and a gun is right beside them? That wouldn't end well.
@9GSHQVK2yrs2Y
As long as the teacher has good morals and trained and knows what to do and doesn’t use it for harm. Lots of background checks and names sure they are stable and good morals
@9FNWVRYLibertarian2yrs2Y
I see where people were going with this and you are never going to get everyone to agree because most people I know freak out when the even hear about guns. Since I have been raised to respect guns as tools to protect myself and others I personally say yes but there will always be bad people.
@9DM9M9K2yrs2Y
Yes, but there should be mandated annual training, psych evaluations, az well as at least monthly therapy for any teacher who signs up for this program
@9DFNF5QLibertarian2yrs2Y
No teacher should be armed. Only have one to two security guards armed.
@9DFN7L32yrs2Y
Security guards yes, teachers ehh
@9D3RKRL2yrs2Y
Yes, but make sure the teachers understand how and when to use guns responsibly
@9BSMF9QConstitution2yrs2Y
You should hire vets to protect schools once they retire from the military
@96DHGNNIndependent3yrs3Y
If the laws remain how they are then yes
@962HHJB3yrs3Y
yes but to have it on them so no kids can grab it
@95TYLHW3yrs3Y
Yes, and all PUBLIC schools should have 2 armed Veterans working security as well.
@95C9XS93yrs3Y
May carry if they chose, if not a gun then any other arms.
@94HQ8YY3yrs3Y
I think giving teachers the rights to carry guns at school can increase shootings and it defeats the purpose of trying to reduce gun usage
@94HNYXP3yrs3Y
No, having teachers carry a gun won't stop or prevent school shootings, it won't really do much to protect students either.
@94BDCKB3yrs3Y
Yes, but only if the teacher has passed sufficient training and/or hire professional security or station local police on premise.
@93NPJDV3yrs3Y
Yes, only if the teacher has had training, background checks, purchased the gun legally, and it is concealed
@93MV69Q3yrs3Y
Yes, but only if the teacher bought the gun legally, has had training/background checks, and it is concealed.
@8ZXH6XCLibertarian3yrs3Y
If they want to and are properly trained and certified to use a weapon
@8ZNLBX73yrs3Y
If the person is licensed to carry a gun then they can in my opinion. Someone who is knowledgeable of gun safety wouldn’t have it out in the open around children.
@8ZMYHPR3yrs3Y
yes, with proper gun safety training and operation
@8XZ4XBS4yrs4Y
I think they should hire a security guard and they should have rubber bullets and handcuffs and stunguns no actual bullets
@8XTV5D4Independent4yrs4Y
not a gun but another kind of weapon
@8W4RN7R4yrs4Y
Yes, The teachers having the firearm should go through a mental health evaluation at least once every two months.
@8VR4HYS4yrs4Y
It has to placed where its hard to reach but in case of an emergency, use it.
@8VKLQ684yrs4Y
Yes. Also who does carry one must have high security channels to go threw with in order to be considered a person(s) protecting themselves and all others. Any teacher(s) who do carry a gun must all be in agreement for emergency purposes on how who and when can and be able to pull put and potentially use a firearm.
@8TPF53CRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes. If a teacher is comfortable with the responsibility
@8R2XG4M4yrs4Y
Not carry but possess one in classroom
@8QXZ6F64yrs4Y
Yes, but they should be required to undergo training in both ethics and gun proper use, and hours of practice.
@8PYPZKD4yrs4Y
Yes, it is their second amendment right to do so.
@8PL5MX95yrs5Y
Only if the school had recently had a shooting
@8NZ2HJP5yrs5Y
Yes, if the gun is put in a safe area and the teacher has a license for said gun.
@8LSWLHR5yrs5Y
Yes, but only if they are trained and have continued training for gun use.
@8J4W8T25yrs5Y
Teachers should have the choice
@8G6TKBD5yrs5Y
Should be up to the teacher.
@8FHC3XJ5yrs5Y
Teachers should be ALLOWED to carry if adequately trained and willing. No requirements should be made.
@8CKM58CRepublican5yrs5Y
yes, if a teacher and/or security guard have the proper training
@9BGY92J2yrs2Y
Yes, but only if it is locked up and can't be unlocked unless it is needed for necessary use.
@9BGY8YH2yrs2Y
Yes if teachers had a place to lock it up in a safe until it's needed so that way there is no accidents
@9B92KBJRepublican2yrs2Y
Depends if the school is at risk of a shooting or has had any threats.
@9B8YVB4Republican2yrs2Y
Yes, As long as it is kept in a safe in the classroom.
I believe there needs to be restrictions and more rules set. But i believe that there should be weapons secured in a safe or something.
@99RJGWR2yrs2Y
Yes but In a safe and use when only needed but they need to go to gun courses
@99NKNCQ2yrs2Y
I feel like no but I kind of think professionally trained security cards would be okay but I don't want any student to feel uncomfortable with them there even if the school says they are there to keep students safe.
@993ZCYQ2yrs2Y
One security guard with a strict background check, etc.
@98QP8CV2yrs2Y
If the teacher is trained or an ex-cop or something, can have the gun in a safe lock where it cant be reached, can control his/her emotions and only use it when there is a threat then yes
@97THHDS3yrs3Y
The school should not force teachers to carry guns.
@979VQM63yrs3Y
This could be good and bad
@96TX9H63yrs3Y
Significantly reduce access to guns instead.
@8WHDBBDRepublican4yrs4Y
I think if teachers want to be able to carry a gun they should take a test to make sure they are mentally stable and safe to carry a gun.
@8JGPYXZ5yrs5Y
If teachers choose to conceal carry in states that allow it, that is their prerogative, but parents should have a vote in each individual case where a teacher has decided to bring a gun into the classroom.
@8J589VW5yrs5Y
Yes, after they receive proper training and education with yearly renewal
@8FNJXPJ5yrs5Y
Yes, if they have a permit and are comfortable with it. I also believe, they should have specific/detailed training prior to carrying at school.
