if the teacher is well trained and keeps the fact that they carry a firearm to themselves, and doesn't tell anyone else only the officers and principal.

 @B34Z4VXPeace and Freedom from Texas  answered…4mos4MO

Teachers should be gun trained and psychologically tested to make sure they are in the right state of mind to protect children from exploitation.

 @B2Z6C3D from Texas  answered…4mos4MO

yes , if they have the same taring as some of the cops with gun safety and identifying a threat. as well as keeping it is a locked location.

 @B2RXBQH from Texas  answered…4mos4MO

Yes as long as they have the required training and protocol but they shouldn't not be allowed to consoled carry

 @B2DKGRK from Texas  answered…5mos5MO

I don't see the point in it, but I'm not entirely against it due to the possible outcome that a shooter comes onto campus.

 @9ZZHXXNNo Labels from Texas  answered…6mos6MO

It depends on the area the school is in and not all the teachers should have a gun id say 5-10% of faculty

 @9ZFNYH4No Labels from Texas  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but only if they are trained. In addition they should have to maintain a current training license.

 @9YJW2TZLibertarian from Texas  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but only with extremely extensive training and background checks, and it must be completely voluntary

 @9YD439G from Texas  answered…7mos7MO

Only teacher who teach some kind of Law Enforcemenr class and that had the approval to have one and also is professionaly trained.

 @9XG5CDB from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

only a security guard should be able to handle one. and they must be tested psychologically to make sure they aren't a risk to themself or others.

 @9X39CFB from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

If teachers are going to carry guns they should be trained like cops are, ensuring they are capable of keeping this firearm and kids safe

 @9WZJ8L3 from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, but would use in immediate and extreme situations and must be locked and kept away from student range.

 @9WVHQK3Republican from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, teachers will have to go through intensive training and certification to carry and there will only be a select few that have been approved.

 @9WTQ9MT from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, but increase studies into why we are having shootings issues in schools and come up with a plan instead of just arming teachers.

 @9WP8CT9 from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, if there is some kind of registration process and a thorough vetting process. They should have to go through an extensive background check and take a safety course that includes how to operate and maintain the weapon, and education regarding self defense and other applicable gun laws in their state. They should have to take continuing education every 3 years.

 @9VQFWKQ from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

We shouldn't normalize weapons amongst the public. A gun shouldn't be in the hands of normal citizens. The only reason a gun exists is to kill. You only use a gun to shoot BACK. You wouldn't need to shoot back if there isn't anyone shooting in the first place.

 @9VQ9TT7Republican  from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

Engaged Armed Teachers

Yes, but schools should require that the teacher undergo formal safety training and that the weapon be secured at all times

 @9V56S48 from Texas  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, if the teacher has been through intensive mental and physical training and certification and the school approves

 @9TTJVM2 from Texas  answered…9mos9MO

No more backpacks. clear lunchboxes only. A panic button in every classroom that allows teachers to access a lockbox code with a gun. It also alerts the police to immediately come.

 @9S36H3QIndependent from Texas  answered…10mos10MO

Hire professionals, but allow to teachers to carry if they want. Teachers would have to let the school/district know they are carrying on campus.

 @9NM3RN9 from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

While I think that having security guards in school is important, I think it is also extremally important to keep as little guns in the school as possible.

 @9LSK6YD from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes I do think so but make sure the teachers has a license for owning a gun and make sure the teacher doesn't have a record of any mental illnesses or any sort of medicine or pill taking

 @9L9Y4KPRepublican from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

I think there should be a course like there is for other things that the teachers can take and get a license so they could carry in school. it should 100% be concealed carry while on the school property. not CHL, a separate course for teachers specifically

 @9KKLXJS from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

They should be allowed but have to go through training and have to pass different types of test like a stress test, decision making test, and gun safety test.

 @9KCKWZ6 from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

It would increase the risk of accidental shootings; they're teachers not trained police officers and unless you're going to pay them exponentially more for the 'added' job description, NO! Also, school should be a safe space without weapons...kids are already scared to go to school. Make schools safer by installing better entry's and entrance procedures - spend more money on making the schools safer than buying the new jumbo-tron for the football stadium!!!

 @9JZ5WTL from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

There needs to be more done outside of having teachers carry and risking their own lives at an easily preventable situation while keeping the "second amendment" trail alive. Teachers shouldn't even have to consider shooting someone.

 @9JTGVRR from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

No, and increase funding for mental health services, education on racial/gender/class/etc prejudices, and social welfare programs that have been shown to be more effective solutions to reducing the occurrence of gun violence.

 @9J6NGKPRepublican from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes as long as they are ex military or ex law enforcement or are willing to take the same training the SRO's have to do.

 @9HK3BYN from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes but require intense training for all teachers to handle firearms and require at least one law enforcement officer

 @9GDQ6WM from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, teachers that want to go through the training to carry a gun in a school should have the ability to do so.

 @9GDMFBF from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, given that the teacher or administrator is licensed to carry and completes a police-supervised training course to allow this.

 @9GBLLTCRepublican  from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

There should be a few certain teacher who go through a mental test and background check then trained accordingly and given a gun to conceal in the classroom to protect the school from intruders or other incidents

 @9FNP97Z from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9FMPCQM from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, they should be securely held in safes and the teachers must go through monthly training and psychological evaluations.

 @9FHG65J from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

No, instead hire trained security guards instead as they are more proffesional and are trained to handle those types of situations for if the teachers had guns, the risk of accidential shootings would be high.

 @9FH53B3 from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes i belive they should but with the proper training and they need to know where and when to use them

 @9FF83T9 from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

if they went through the right training and know how and when to use them. i belive they should

 @9DNQN2R from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @8GTKBB9 from Texas  answered…5yrs5Y

I feel like it would be a good idea for protection, but on the other hand you have some teachers that may be violent and could be harmful to the students.

 @9B9M5QZ from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @96MH9V2 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

if the teacher has a federal charge, they should not have a gun, or even be a teacher.

 @96DVLSN from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only after they have completed training courses that are made for in school handling and de-escalation classes.

 @966QLSG from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @964B3W7Libertarian from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95ZCKSV from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I think it would be ok for teachers to carry weapons' as long as they have gone to an extensive training course. more extensive then police or military too.

 @95ZCHGF from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

i feel like yes but you would need to do a serious back ground check on the teacher

 @95Q43V4 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @94N7K8BConstitution from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, all vetted school employees should retain their Second Amendment rights and all workplace “Gun Free Zones” are unconstitutional and draw mass shooters in.

 @93R7H4QGreen from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, after going through extensive training on how to properly store it and use it.

 @93N9DTM from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Teachers should not be required. Districts however may choose to enact something like the guardian plan in Texas but it should be better regulated and training provided.

 @93KVQ3H from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, teachers and staff who have passed carry certification requirements should be allowed to carry

 @93GX3YF from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @93GKQNY from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but it shouldn't mandatory. It should be the choice of each teacher

 @936QR3R from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @92YVCW7 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

There should be one officer on campus that is armed, and possibly a teacher, as long as the teacher is qualified and trained to use that weapon.

 @8ZYLWTF from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZBK4TJ from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZBCC4F from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

A teacher or security guard that has the required training should have a fire arm in the case of a threat to the lives of the students or teachers.

 @8Z7LD53 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, if they have successfully completed a training course on appropriate safety and legal requirements and demonstrated proficency in the use of their weapon

 @8YVRW4QIndependent from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, if they have gone through extensive training for how to handle having a gun at school

 @8Y5RGWR from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only if properly trained and in accordance with state and local requirements

 @8Y349PZ from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I think that if they have a LTC and have had sufficient enough background checks then I see no problem with it.

 @8WZ7NGG from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

I feel like teachers shouldn't have a gun but also if the teacher has a license for it and the school administration allows it then yes. What if there was a school shooter in a class room and a teacher had a gun to eliminate the shooter

 @8WXG7VB from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe all teachers should be trained gun safety, and be given access to a firearm. However, it should be locked for emergencies, like sets off an alarm when the teacher has to use the weapon for any reason

 @8WXBD2Q from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, teachers with proper safety and usage training should be allowed to carry in school

 @8WQT8N7Republican from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

People with training in gun safety and military experience (honorably discharge) should be employed to become security guards with their experience in the military.

 @8WPGK5Y from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, as long as that teacher has had a strict background check, psychological testing and training.

 @8WKYMZV from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

i say yes as long as they can prove proficiency under time and stress/pressure

 @8W4ZFMC from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

yes, but the teacher would have to go through strict background checks and training. the gun also should be locked up at all times unless for extreme situations

 @8W36PXZ from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8W27LV6Peace and Freedom from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

I think if a teacher were to bring a gun to school as protection that would be okay but they would have to have special training

 @8VZVXYH from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but there needs to be strict, strict regulation background checks, school-mandated gun safety and usage training, and restrictions of types of weapons allowed for teachers.

 @8VNVT78Constitution from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VNSZ6S from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VM4V4M from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Teachers with special training and background checks should be allowed to have a gun at school.

 @8VM4V2C from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Teachers with licensed training and a clear background check should be allowed to possess a firearm on school campus

 @8V2B7NDWorking Family from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TZ9XMMLibertarian from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TDJS29 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but require any teacher who chooses to carry a gun in school to undergo psychological testing and training with their weapon to a standard similar to police (staying calm under fire, practicing active shooter situations, etc)

 @8TCPGFV from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @kea83 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, if a teacher has the proper training and has been psychologically approved. Otherwise no, schools should hire properly trained and screened security personnel.

 @8T9K8MW from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Secondary campuses should have assigned resource officers to provide security support. They need to be licensed peace officers in all jurisdictions of the schools within a given district.

 @8SXCYKC from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but they should require training and students should not know who may or may not have a gun. I fear that in some schools, the teacher with a gun may be a target to take the gun. I am a teacher and I want to have a gun if a nutcase tries to kill my students. Right now all I can do is be prepared to jump him and die.
