so.. using the saying "it's not the guns, it's the people..." if it's the people.. why do we need gun officers protecting schools? from people? all of this is so backwards ..i really do worry for our nation. sooo just dumb

Yes, allow teachers the opportunity, with strict background checks and psych evaluations. Also, hire trained professionals

 @B28K84CLibertarian from Pennsylvania  answered…5mos5MO

Yes, However they shoukd be specially trained and have a clean record and complete courses each year

 @9ZMB886 from Pennsylvania  answered…6mos6MO

Selected Teachers should be trained on how to use a gun in a crisis circumstance and trained on how to safe lives.

 @9Y9M5KS from Pennsylvania  answered…7mos7MO

Teachers should have the option, but not be required and it should be kept confidential who is and who isn't armed

 @9Y6WS33Independent from Pennsylvania  answered…7mos7MO

Yes but it should be documented who is carrying and only teachers who want to carry, no forcing teachers to carry

 @9XRZNZG from Pennsylvania  answered…7mos7MO

Yes. Each class room should have a gun just like it has a fire extinguisher and a door lock. It should be locked up and kept near the front of the glass room only accessible with a key given to each teacher. Not a key like we normally think. No one should have a gun in their pocket on in a drawer ever.

 @9XDTVP4 from Pennsylvania  answered…7mos7MO

Yes and No because you know what they can do to the student there but also protect us if their an trusted person.

 @9WKR4YB from Pennsylvania  answered…7mos7MO

they should be allowed to have them locked to reduce accidents but should have ways of defense incase needed

 @9W5F5VS from Pennsylvania  answered…7mos7MO

yes I do think they should, but only if the teacher gets heavily checked on any criminal records they have and the gun must be in a mini locker so if their every extremely angry or crazy it will take some time and should and minimum have only 6 bullets

 @9VV4FYG from Pennsylvania  answered…8mos8MO

This shouldn’t even be a thing. We shouldn’t need teachers to carry guns and we shouldn’t need armed security guards if the gun laws were stricter.

 @9V9RSFD from Pennsylvania  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, but only after proper training to be able to respond competently in the case of an active shooter

 @9V5D5H5 from Pennsylvania  answered…8mos8MO

I dont see a reason for teachers to carry guns at school, I think they should be able to have one available to them at school but not on them.

 @9TZ73HWNo Labels from Pennsylvania  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, Schools should have one or two guards have guns somewhere in the building, locked away, where only they know how to open it, so that the gun is only used when exactly necessary.

 @9TQMGP5No Labels from Pennsylvania  answered…8mos8MO

No one should have Guns beside police or very high trusted people with thorough background checks and mental health checks and a waiting period of a year or two and if they have an incident with that gun they should never be allowed to have one again.

 @9TMZ82L from Pennsylvania  answered…9mos9MO

No, train teachers and students in defensive combat, how to de-escalate situations and disarm weapons.

 @9TGG4H2Republican from Pennsylvania  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, but they should be required to have training on how to properly use it and store it away at all times. Regardless of whether teachers have it, I strongly feel that there should be at least 2-3 security guards, or police offices, patrolling the school at all times. This would not only be helpful if there was ever a threat like a shooter, but it could help bring down the number of fights, children getting bullied, and substance use in schools.

 @9TCQH96 from Pennsylvania  answered…9mos9MO

If teachers would like to carry guns, they should have safeguards in place to protect themselves and students. BUT, they should not be REQUIRED to carry one.

 @9T8NQVWProgressive from Pennsylvania  answered…9mos9MO

I think certain schools would benefit from having armed guards/teachers, and many would not. I should not be a requirement but it should be allowed if it makes a teacher feel safer. It should be kept in a locked gunsafe under the desk where no students can get to it.

 @9SYWPYB from Pennsylvania  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, but only in case of emergencies and strict rules for any teachers possessing a gun in the classroom.

 @9SS7WTN from Pennsylvania  answered…9mos9MO

All schools should have an armed resource officer that is a credentialed police officer in the jurisdiction that the school is in.

 @9SJ8SVL from Pennsylvania  answered…9mos9MO

If they are well trained, understand protocol and escalation of force, and are fit to do so, then yes.

 @9RVHVKR from Pennsylvania  answered…10mos10MO

Yes but only Certain teachers and they must have a sticked protocol on when the gun should be taken out and used. Similar in star trek when the ships self destruct was activated. Those teachers mist also perform mental health screenings once a month, and be taxed less.

 @9RRNLY8Independent from Pennsylvania  answered…10mos10MO

allow teachers that want to but they should be documented, trained, evaluated, and monitor to ensure they are fit to do so. Also who is carrying should be anonymous to protect the teacher from potential shooter

 @9QXZ7SN from Pennsylvania  answered…11mos11MO

I agree with the idea of having at least one armed guard or a teacher that has professional marksmanship training would be a good idea in theory but I feel moreso like that it should be lessso in the hands of teaching staff in practicality and moreso on school security who ultimately would be better trained and equipped to handle such incidents.

 @9MNV3Q3 from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I think they should be allowed to carry only after a very intense background check and no criminal record .

 @9LHHSXH from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

If students obviously shouldn't then teachers also shouldn't. Keep weapons out of the hands of kids. They have no need for them.

 @9JTPYQB from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and no I think if you regulate the control of guns then teachers wouldn't need to even think about having guns.

 @9J5KJ2VIndependent from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

yes, as many teachers as they can should carry a gun in any case to protect students or other faculty members from any threats in the school but, they should also think about it ( like don’t shoot some random student cause they seemed like a threat without talking to them, etc)

 @9GW22K6 from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

I think that there should be a system put in place where there is maximum security to limit the safety issues

 @9FZVG8Q from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, if the teacher feels comfortable and agrees to annual training, psychological tests and any type of work misconduct results in termination

 @9FRBN4M from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

Extensive and more strict background checks should be evaluated on teachers so they have the right credentials/experience to carry a fire arm in a classroom. Gun should always be inside a safe or other locked area.

 @9FF67FG from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

We should have more gun restrictions in general or take away gun all together. Guns needs to be so hard to access because in other countries school shooting don’t really exist.

 @9F84L4P from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

Not guns, however give the teachers ways to defend themselves. Have security guards carry guns, but only use them as a last resort.

 @9F3DD2V from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9DCBCHF from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

 @8GCHTGN from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes but under extremely conditions they should allow teachers to carry firearms

 @8G3BL8V from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, it should be optional if the teacher is trained and confident in using the weapon.

 @9FK48Q8Republican from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

If the teacher is trained and not insane sure let however many are comfortable to be armed as long as the firearm is locked until needed

 @9BY3TB8 from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

 @98WH8BBLibertarian from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

It depends. Some schools are poorly funded which then it hard to hire security guards but I also feel like it is unprofessional for teachers to own or carry guns at school even though the 2nd Amendment is alive.

 @96FPBKB from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but depends on what requirements there would be around gun storage, and training requirements for teachers to utilize in situations requiring discharge of the firearm.

 @9645ZSNLibertarian from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

Teachers should be allowed to carry if they go through extensive monthly training, weekly mental screening, and have a large number of prior hours spent in the field training for situations that would specifically be related to school scenarios. Personally I think that it would be a better option to make students leave their backpacks and other bags at the school at all times. Homework, books, and other school related materials should be online only. Access to the internet (laptop, tablet, phone, etc.) should be given to students who are in need. This would minimize space that one would need to carry a weapon intended for mass harm. If this is not enough of a countermeasure, then a school would need to institute metal detectors. If this does not work then, and only then, should we institute teachers carrying firearms.

only if they keep it in a safe cause some of these teachers got anger issues

 @95PQ4HLSocialist from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

 @957TYSM from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

I am torn, this could be a yes but then it shows kids that school isn't a safe space.

 @94K7ZKX from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, teachers should be able to carry a gun if trained long enough and properly

 @946FYC4 from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but they should have to undergo strict background checks, phycological testing, and training

 @944F72WLibertarian from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

 @93WBSYG from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

Only specifically trained and experienced people that have cleared multiple background and mental health checks should be able to have a gun in school to protect or prevent danger.

 @93V57GG from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but have the selection of the few who can have one thoroughly checked and trained.

 @93PS39N from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but require monthly training and the choice to carry is the staffs.

 @93CC48QRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XVYYBC from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

They should need to have a psychological test to make sure they’re okay to carry one.

 @8XL2JR5 from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but there should be documentation with the local police departments to know who is carrying.

 @8WP7KY7 from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

i think there should be 1 security guard armed with a concealed carry pistol and there should be no high caliber gun as when dealing with a active shooter it might shoot through wall. and shotguns should be banned to to the fact it spreads pellets in a large area

 @8WHPSXT from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

I think it all depends on what type of school you go to and the enviorment that you are in.I think that it should be used on the students or anyone in the school but when a threat comes inside the school and people with weapons come in it should be used then and only then when there being harmed.

 @8WFTBHN from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

They should hire a professional security guard, but the guard can be armed and have the gun tucked at all times in case of an emergency.

 @8WFPJC5 from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

should not be able to carry them but there should be hidden guns in the school

 @8W95X4W from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, they should be ALLOWED, but if no teacher chooses to carry a firearm, nobody should be forced to do so.

 @8W8YP7V from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

yes, but with mental checks every semester, trimester and background checks

 @8VDQXSC from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8V9DKQL from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

Just like any other professional should have the right to possess weaponry at their place of business.

 @8TTWWC5 from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TSQT8Z from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

 @bacampbellsoup from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

Any teacher who wants to carry a gun may do so, but must pass a psychological testing and complete a fire arm safety course

 @8SKSZ33 from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, only if teacher has a relative conceal carry permit, and approved by school board

 @8NH3L8D from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes for each classroom but with fingerprint or lock for faculty only to know the code

 @8NBRMH5Progressive from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8MYS26N from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

if the teacher is licensed and legal than it ought not be the governments job to ban such action. allow each school to choose the regulations on teachers having guns. if they choose not incentivize the option for security.

 @8MQ9ZQ2 from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

Only individuals that are former military or police, and have had additional training should carry.

 @8MNRRX8 from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

no this would increase FEAR in students and thats what matter more your gonna make them feel like there in prison
