In 1961, the South Carolina State Government passed a law mandating that the confederate flag be flown on the ground of its state capitol building. The law was passed to commemorate the centennial of the Civil War assault on Fort Sumter. Opponents argue that the flag is a political symbol that represents racial inequality and should be removed after the shooting deaths of nine African American church members in June 2015. Proponents argue that the flag is an important historical symbol that commemorates the state’s role in the Civil War.

No, only the American flag should be displayed on government property.
@8FWQKLD5yrs5Y
No, it should be put in a museum

Why are they flying it? There shouldn't be a problem because it is not a symbol of racism. The public education system needs to do a better job of teaching history in a way that makes people feel like they're part of a union rather than part of an ongoing competition between races, genders, religions, etc.

I think it it a very important part of history but does not belong on government property
@8QTJ2KB4yrs4Y
No it should never be on government property, but anywhere else is fine.
@8P3MB6HIndependent5yrs5Y
No it is a symbol of racism separatism and treason, it is a product of history and therefore belongs in a museum not glorified in public.
@8M826HF5yrs5Y
No, but it put it into a museum so that they can teach American history
@jkrupp01015yrs5Y
Yes, it is a historic symbol of the Civil War, and should be treated as such. It is also a symbol of Southern pride, not as a symbol of racism.
@8J5B2945yrs5Y
I really do not feel strongly one way or another.
@8GZLYJN5yrs5Y
Hmmm... Probably just the American Flag.
@9CH7ZJ72yrs2Y
No, but if a citizen wants to exercise their first amendment right on their own land and private property go right ahead!
@98SJXXD2yrs2Y
No other flag besides the USA/state flag should be flown at Government buildings. If we allow Ukraine flags to be flown there, then the confederate flag can too. All should be banned.
@96C4DNBRepublican3yrs3Y

@8WF367N4yrs4Y
