In 1961, the South Carolina State Government passed a law mandating that the confederate flag be flown on the ground of its state capitol building. The law was passed to commemorate the centennial of the Civil War assault on Fort Sumter. Opponents argue that the flag is a political symbol that represents racial inequality and should be removed after the shooting deaths of nine African American church members in June 2015. Proponents argue that the flag is an important historical symbol that commemorates the state’s role in the Civil War.

It is important to remember all of the details of what happened during the Civil War. Therefore, museums and institutions are adequate settings to learn about this part of history. However, the flag does represent racism and should not be flaunted in an everyday setting.

Yes, at historical monuments and museums

I don't agree with the flag and believe it is a symbol of racism, however I do believe they have a right to fly said flag.
@93BWMKZLibertarian3yrs3Y
No it shouldnt however flying the flag on private property is protected under the 1st amendment
@8XGCXC44yrs4Y
I don’t think it should be allowed or not, but I don’t think it’s right.
@8RDWFLH4yrs4Y
No, it is the flag of a treasonous cluster of states that formed a different nation, and should be shunned by patriots
@8PQQMYW4yrs4Y
No, not unless they're planning to leave again

Southerners blood may allow them to place the flag but northern blood allows us to take it down, down with traitors
@97J8RSV3yrs3Y
It should be up to those living in the state
I do not decide for others as long as they do not cause any harms to other races and minorities.

I think for a government to do this, it's almost like the government is taking a stand for all of the negative things the confederate flag stands for
